If you are inconsistent with your daily oral hygiene routine, your chances of developing a cavity on a tooth are significantly increased. Failure to attend your regular dental checkup at Price Dental Associates can allow the tooth decay to grow. Should the cavity become too large to be repaired by a filling, Dr. Dwight Price may need to restore the tooth with a dental crown.

This will effectively treat the tooth decay by replacing the entire tooth enamel layer with an alternative material. Crowns are typically made from either gold, porcelain, or a metallic alloy.

There are two distinct stages to this restoration. During the first appointment, Dr. Dwight Price will use a drill to remove the tooth enamel from the tooth to create an abutment. This a healthy sheath of dentin that protects the sensitive pulp and root within.

An impression of the abutment and surrounding teeth will be made. This will be sent to a dental lab to serve as a guide while the technicians meticulously craft your new crown.

A member of our staff will call you to schedule a short follow-up appointment when the crown is ready. The temporary crown will be removed and your new crown will be cemented atop the abutment.

If you live in Houston, Texas, and you have a tooth suffering from a large cavity, you should call 281-493-1550 to schedule an appointment at Price Dental Associates.
