The American Dental Association recommends having a routine dental checkup performed twice each year. This is critical for maintaining a healthy mouth and detecting any problems with gum disease, and tooth decay. This also includes a dental cleaning to remove all traces of tartar from your teeth and polish away surface stains.

If Dr. Dwight Price or Dr. Joseph Bauscher have concerns about the strength of your tooth enamel or the overall health of your teeth, he might recommend a basic fluoride treatment. This can be performed immediately following the dental checkup.

Our dentist will administer the fluoride treatment by pouring concentrated fluoride gel into special trays. They will need to be held in your mouth, along with a small suction wand, or a few minutes. The fluoride will help to restore some of the mineral density of your tooth enamel. This makes your teeth less prone to tooth sensitivity and the ability to resist future tooth decay.

You should avoid eating or drinking for up to an hour afterward to allow the fluoride to deeply penetrate your teeth.

If Dr. Dwight Price or Dr. Joseph Bauscher have further concerns about the strength of your tooth enamel, he might also prescribe fluoride supplements. This often comes in the form of a prescription grade concentrated fluoride toothpaste or mouthwash.
